As always it is a great pleasure to welcome Codsall Dramatic Society as part of the Festival.  This year they have chosen to present the ever-popular ‘Steel Magnolias’ in what promises to be an extremely entertaining evening.

The play was written in 1987 by American author Robert Harling and was so successful that in 1989 it was made into a Hollywood blockbuster, starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley McLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts, to name but a few.  Since then the popularity of the story has given rise to a further remake of the film in 2012, as a highly rated television film in the USA.

This hilarious and touching play for six women is set in a beauty parlour in Louisiana, where hair and beauty treatments are always secondary to love, friendship and a good gossip.  It’s not all gossip though, there also emerges a deep and caring sense of strength and purposefulness.

Codsall Dramatic Society continues to present award winning drama in Codsall Village.
