Event Details

Following the Government’s announcements of 16 March, Codsall Arts Festival Committee has agreed with Codsall Dramatic Society that this week’s performances on 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st March will not take place due to circumstances beyond our control (coronavirus).

‘Joking Apart’ is the 21st of the 82 plays that Alan Ayckbourn has written; it might be more by the time we perform this!

If you are familiar with his writing, you will expect to be amused, but not generally uplifted, by the relationships probed in his dramas. Although this was written in response to a disgruntled audience member asking, “Why don’t you write about happy couples?” the result is still the same.

However, there is indeed one happy couple, for whom everything they touch turns to gold, whilst their friends’ lives are devastated in various ways through their intimacy and their inability to break the ties.

Ayckbourn’s writing skills are cleverly displayed in this poignant piece; a few lines can turn a situation on its head.

Throw in a tennis match, fireworks and extraordinary amounts of food and drink and we can promise you a very entertaining evening.

Codsall Dramatic Society continues to present award winning drama in Codsall Village.
